Research

To explore the potential and challenges of a home-cooked food delivery application, I conducted in-depth domain research, including surveys, interviews and competitor analysis.

Competitor Research

FoodCloud

FoodCloud is a platform that connects home chefs with customers looking for fresh, homemade meals. It focuses on providing a wide range of cuisines prepared by local cooks, catering to dietary preferences like vegan, gluten-free, and low-calorie options. FoodCloud emphasizes food safety and quality, ensuring that all chefs are verified and follow hygiene standards. Customers can browse menus, place orders, and have meals delivered to their doorstep. The platform also supports budding chefs by offering them a space to showcase their talent and earn income, creating a win-win for both cooks and customers

Tiffinly

Tiffinly specializes in delivering wholesome, homemade meals to customers, particularly targeting professionals, students, and families. It offers a subscription-based model for weekly or monthly meal plans, focusing on balanced nutrition and portion control. Known for its eco-friendly approach, Tiffinly uses biodegradable packaging, catering to environmentally conscious users. The platform also offers customization options for dietary needs like keto, diabetic-friendly, or allergen-free meals. With a focus on convenience, the service ensures timely delivery and consistent quality, making it a popular choice for those seeking healthy alternatives to restaurant food.

Problem

In today’s fast-paced world, many people struggle to find healthy, affordable, and home-cooked meal options. Existing food delivery platforms primarily focus on restaurant or fast-food offerings, leaving a gap for individuals seeking authentic, homemade meals. This creates challenges for

  • Individuals crave home-cooked meals but lacking the time or skills to prepare them.
  • Home chefs who want to share their culinary skills and earn income but lack an accessible platform to connect with customers.

Vision Statement

To create a platform that bridges the gap between people seeking nutritious, home-cooked meals and passionate home chefs, enabling a community-driven solution for healthy eating and sustainable living. The application aims to deliver not just food, but the warmth and authenticity of home cooking, empowering both customers and local cooks.

Research Insights

As part of the initial research, I conducted surveys across different colleges and companies and also held one-on-one interviews to gain deeper insights into user needs and preferences. As a product designer, I carefully designed the surveys to target specific demographics and asked open-ended questions during the interviews to understand the challenges, habits, and desires of potential users. The data collected was then analyzed to identify common patterns and pain points, which helped me create user personas that accurately represented the target audience and their needs for the home-cooked food delivery app.

My takeaways

“Designing with Users, Delivering with Purpose” – Owning the entire UX process was an incredible experience. Since this was my first freelance project, I truly enjoyed working with a small team. One of the highlights was directly engaging with end users understanding their real pain points and how our app could genuinely help them. Beyond just meeting user needs, I was also involved in the business side of things. Every step of the journey was a learning experience, shaping both my design approach and strategic thinking
